Downloading the driver card (USB)

You download the driver card using a CCID-standard USB card reader connected to your phone. (For the required hardware, see the What you need page.)

Note: individual days cannot be downloaded separately in parts

Step by step

On the main screen, select Download driver card. The reader screen guides you through the following states:

  1. Connect usb card reader! — plug the USB card reader into your phone (using an OTG adapter if needed).
  2. Enable using usb device! — when Android requests permission for the connected device, grant it. This prompt also confirms that the phone has recognised the reader.
  3. Insert driver card into card reader! — insert the driver card.
  4. Reading … — reading starts automatically, with a progress indicator.
  5. You can remove card from reader! — done; the data has been saved to the Archive, and the app immediately offers options for what to do with it.

If the card was already inserted when you connected the reader, the Tap the screen to start card reading! message may appear — tap the screen to begin reading.

If you get an error during reading: the Communication error! Remove the card! or Failed to use the device as a card reader message typically indicates a non-standard reader. Remove the card and try again; if the error repeats, send the log using Send log file from the main screen menu so we can add support for it. See the Troubleshooting page.

Reading-related settings

These are found in Settings; here is a brief description of their effect:

SettingWhat it does
Starting if card reader detectableWhen enabled, reading starts automatically as soon as the phone detects the connected reader (may require notification permission).
Fast card readingFaster reading with optimised timing. If a reading fails because of this, the app automatically falls back to the slower, more reliable mode after the first error.
Card compatibility levelG2v2 (default, also reads G1 and G2v1), G2v1 (also reads G1), or Only G1. The "Only G1" mode is useful for older analysis programs that cannot handle the larger G2 files.
Card timestampWhen enabled, the date of reading is written back to the card (visible to roadside inspectors). When disabled, it is not (⚠️ — the reading will not be documented on the card).

Card generation and file size. Reading second-generation (G2) cards produces a larger file (approx. 66 KB) than G1 cards (approx. 26 KB). The resulting file is in standard format (.ddd / .esm / .tgd / .c1b).

What can be read?

The entire card can be read, multiple times — your company can also download your data after a reading. Certain periods may not always be readable because the digital signature covers all data. The number of days stored depends on driving activity: activities may be visible up to a year back, while country codes typically only cover a few months. There is no speed data on the card — that can only be downloaded from the tachograph (see Bluetooth download).
